Middletown Lumber seems to be the lumberyard in Central Pa that from time to time has lengths of some lumber suitable for gunwales, and, they also have long lengths (14' to 24' or so) of African Mahogany (aka fake Mahogany) that is primarily used for exterior decks.

My source for quality gunwale lumber, as well as lumber of several varieties for carving paddles, is Hick's Lumber, 14464 Hicksville Rd., Clear Springs, MD 21722, 301-842-3474. Hick's Lumber is located out in the country -- way out -- about 12 miles west of I-81 near the PA/MD line just north of Hagerstown, MD. Hick's Lumber is high quality Mennonite business and not a show-room operation. You will be lucky if you can reach anyone by phone. The hours are 7 - 5 Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and 7 to noon on Thursday. I don't know if they take credit cards or checks as I always pay with cash.
